iTunes Freebies

iTunes Music Store has freebies each week of movies and now videos and vodcasts. This blog will keep you up to date on them (some of them can be hard to find.)

Week of January 31st, 2006

Music:

Single of the Week: The Magic Numbers - Love Me Like You Do (alternative)

Discovery Download: Lori McKenna - Mr. Sunshine (country)

(boy is her name going to confuse Loreena McKennit fans out there. Got me for a second.)

Videos:

Flipsyde Exclusive Music video from NBC

KT Tunstall on the Today show: "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree"

I'm starting to think it'd be wise to check the Music video section daily or at least several times a week and watch it for a while as the ads rotates, looking for the yellow "Free" badge in the corner (usually upper right corner) of an ad.

TV Shows:
None (although the music videos above also were appearing in the TV show area as they are from TV performances). C'mon TV shows producers: give us a freebie from each show or each season, PERMANENTLY or at least as they are introduces, so we can check 'em out to see if we're interested.

Short Films:
None. C'mon Pixar and Disney...or is that Pixney now....give us one as a freebie to see if we like 'em.

Audiobooks:
None.

Hey Apple: Where are the eBooks on the iTunes store?

Free iTunes New Music samplers still out there

I ran across these last year, and apparently they are still out there:

iTunes New Music Sampler (Motown edition)

iTunes New Music Sampler (Atlantic/Lava edition)

Note: you must create an iTunes account to get these.

Free iTunes 6.0.2 upgrade

Not free content, but a free upgrade to iTunes version 6.0.2 was announced yesterday. New feature: The MiniStore. Useful if you're trying to find similar music, and fortunately you can turn it off from either the menu bar or a button at the bottom right side of the iTunes window (the leftmost button of that group, looks similar to the button in the grouping on the LEFT side that turns the album art pane on and off.)

Freebies for the week of January 8th, 2006

Music:
Single of the week: Jace Everett - "Bad Things" (country)

Discovery Download: Earl Klugh - "Angelina" (jazz guitar)

Music videos:
None found (there used to be hundreds free on the iTMS before Apple started selling them...)

Audiobooks:
None found

TV shows:

Free MONK "promotional" TV episode - "Mr. Monk and the Other Detective"

I hope this free TV show or video of the week is a trend! (I'm hoping for Battlestar Galactica. Hint: give away the miniseries/pilot of a series to get people started out, Hollywood!)

Other video:
Hoodwinked (22 minute "making of" featurette about the movie)

Note: The above video is in the Movie Trailers section, but is actually a "vodcast" (video podcast) so when you click it, it will add an item to your podcast list and you may need to subscribe or click "get" to get that "episode" depending on your iTunes podcast settings.

On a related note: Movie trailers are ALWAYS free, so they are not listed in this blog. I may list new movie trailers here if there is enough interest and I have enough time. No promises.

Podcasts are also (usually) free and are so profligate that there's no way I could keep up, so I'm not even going to try. Don't ask. ;-)

FROM LAST WEEK (still available as of this writing):

SciFi Inside - Battlestar Galactica

There was also a Saturday Night Live skit posted as a freebie recently, AFTER the above item, but it does not appear to be available any longer.

IF YOU FIND ANY OTHER FREEBIES, PLEASE POST A COMMENT TO THIS BLOG ENTRY!

What's this blog all about?

I created this blog because Apple now has "freebies" other than the music freebies that change each week in the lower-left hand corner of the main page of the iTunes Music Store.

Specifically, of late there have been free videos from Sci Fi Channel and Saturday Night live, and more this week.

They also had an "iTunes Music Sampler" in the past.

Googling didn't turn up any blogs or feeds with this info, so I thought I'd start one.
